  • Mansa Musa - greatest king of Empire of Mali
  • Great Zimbabwe - East African kingdom
  • Ferdinand Magellan - Spanish explorer
  • Potosi - Peruvian silver
  • Cog - type of sailing vessel
  • Carrack - sailing vessel (Santa Maria example)
  • These were different than any previous empires, because they were seaborne. Driven by religion, greed for gold, and glory.
